Meet the Chef
LaKisha 'L'Soul': Nourishing Hearts, One Dish at a Time Born and raised in North Muskegon, MI, Chef LaKisha 'L'Soul' Harris is the second eldest of nine siblings. She excelled academically, representing her country as a Rotary Exchange Student in Brazil, and later earned a B.A. in English and Creative Writing from Western Michigan University, with a minor in Spanish. Fluent in both Spanish and Portuguese, LaKisha is passionate about cooking, a skill she honed under her mother's guidance. Her mother ran a successful catering business in Muskegon for over three decades. Inspired by her mother's legacy, LaKisha founded Soul Filled Cakes & Catering in 2014. Her tagline, 'Food that is good to and for your soul,' reflects her ethos of cooking with love and devotion
LaKisha balances being a mother to her daughter Rheyma with managing her businesses in Muskegon and Detroit, MI, while traveling extensively with Soul Filled on the Road. Known for her generosity and community spirit, she is committed to blessing others through her culinary creations.
Her goal is to be a catalyst for change in the world, imbuing every dish with a special touch from God. Whether it's weddings, business lunches, or corporate events, Chef L'Soul is ready to fill your soul-one delicious meal at a time.
Chef LaKisha is the chairwoman for the newly formed C.O.U.R.S.E Taskforce. This group consists of African American and Latino chefs from all over the US; joining together to change the culinary future, and definition of what a "real chef is". She also serves on the advisory board of the Culinary Institute of Michigan and Kids Food Basket; as well as the President of the Black Chefs Association for the State of Michigan
